Monroe Co. Sheriff's Office employee charged with assault

(WBIR) A Monroe County deputy is accused of beating his girlfriend who works in the Roane County Sheriff's Office.

The girlfriend told authorities Jacob Tyler Summers, 21, of Madisonville was drunk when he punched her several times earlier this month. The couple started fighting while driving home from a night out.

Pinwheels represent importance of Child Abuse Prevention Month

A display at an East Tennessee courthouse is shining a message of hope and progress while pushing to protect children.

More than 100 pinwheels are spinning throughout the month of April on the lawn of the Roane County Courthouse. The Child Advocacy Center of the Ninth Judicial District put them there to share the importance of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Rockwood Police warn of phone call scam

The Rockwood Police Department is warning people of a scammer who is impersonating a police officer and asking for money.

Police Chief Stephen Rowe says more than 20 people have received calls from the scammer. Rowe says the caller identifies himself as John Davis, a lieutenant with the Rockwood Police Department.

Rowe says "Davis" is telling people they have an outstanding warrant and they must send him $400.

Neighbors once again file suit against Tiger Haven

A group of Roane County residents who live near a big cat sanctuary are once again suing.

The four neighbors filed a lawsuit against Tiger Haven, citing noise, safety and health concerns. They are asking for up to $10 million dollars in damages and a jury trial.

(WBIR-Rockwood) While the wilderness is steps away from the neighborhoods in Rockwood, police say it's still an odd case. Diseased raccoons have been discovered, and they could have rabies.
