Roane Co. crash claims the life of young Kingston man

An early morning crash has claimed the life of a Kingston man.

According to a report filed by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 22 year old Patrick Fly was traveling south on Swan Pond Road in Harriman when he failed to negotiate a curve.

Fly's car then skidded off the road way and flipped several time and he was ejected during the crash.

Fly passed away at the scene of the accident as a result of injuries he received in the crash.

There were no other people in the vehicle when this accident happened.

Tenn. Baptists voice support for abortion amendment

The state's largest group of Protestants is expressing its support for an abortion amendment set to go before Tennessee voters next year.

Amendment One adds language to the state's constitution saying in part, "Nothing in this Constitution secures or protects a right to abortion or requires the funding of an abortion." It could pave the way for lawmakers to pass abortion restrictions currently prevented by the state constitution's privacy protections.

Driver killed after SUV hits tree in Harriman

According to a Tennessee High Patrol crash report, Coy R. Slaven, 35, of Harriman died after his Ford Explorer ran off Highway 27 at the intersection of Rock Bridge Road and struck a tree.

Officials said he wasn't wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.

Train hits and kills man in Rockwood

Authorities said the incident killed James Edward Dick, 51, of Crossville.

The train struck him in a remote section of the tracks near Highway 27 at about 3:30 a.m. in north Rockwood.

TVA coal plants polluting groundwater, report says

The report, released in anticipation of next month's five-year anniversary of a massive coal ash spill in Kingston, found that TVA's pollution problems extend far beyond the damage done by that environmental disaster. It said TVA could be doing more to protect drinking water supplies.

"As we come up on the fifth anniversary of the Kingston spill, we were disappointed to find evidence of really pretty serious groundwater contamination at all of TVA's 11 coal plants," Environmental Integrity Project Director Eric Schaeffer told reporters Thursday.
