A Roane County community turned out in droves for a Labor Day tradition.

Folks enjoyed some dancing, and even bouncing, at the 26th annual Hooray for Harriman celebration.

The town blocks off a stretch of US Highway 27 through downtown every year for the big street party. The fun includes plenty of food vendors, music, hot rods and Gospel singing inside the Princess Theater.

Organizers say bringing crowds downtown will help revitalize the city.

An investigation has concluded that the shooting of an armed burglary suspect in Harriman Tuesday was justified.

Officers shot and killed Miranda Michelle Guy, 28, in her home on Fairchild Street.

4 Roane Co. schools offer free meals to all students

This year all students at some Roane County schools can eat meals at school at no cost.

Students enjoy meals that comply with national school nutrition standards.

Four schools, including Bowers Elementary School, offer free breakfast and lunch thanks to a national grant. The program allows all students to receive the meals regardless of economic status without having to fill out additional paperwork.
