Dyllis Springs Elementary opens doors for first time

Thursday was not only the first week of school for students at Dyllis Springs Elementary School, it was also the first week for the building.

School officials and special guests officially cut the ribbon on Roane County's newest school Thursday.

The building, which will serve more than 400 students this year is state-of-the-art. It uses geothermal energy, energy efficient building materials, and will eventually use solar power.

"Word's can't really express this building and all that went into the shaping of it. It is awesome," said Principal Gwen Johnson.

The school can hold up to 700 students.
