Rockwood Police warn of phone call scam

The Rockwood Police Department is warning people of a scammer who is impersonating a police officer and asking for money.

Police Chief Stephen Rowe says more than 20 people have received calls from the scammer. Rowe says the caller identifies himself as John Davis, a lieutenant with the Rockwood Police Department.

Rowe says "Davis" is telling people they have an outstanding warrant and they must send him $400.

The department says this is a scam. Chief Rowe says they do not have a worker named John Davis and the department would never call people and ask for money like this.

If the scammer calls you or if you have any information, police ask you call the police department at 865-354-3388 or central communications at 865-354-8045.
