Elderly woman trapped in crashed car for a day
News

(WBIR-ROANE COUNTY)  A Roane County deputy and mail carrier are being credited with spotting a car that crashed down an embankment the day before. Trapped inside the car was an 80-year-old woman who'd been unable to free herself.

According to the Roane County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page, Kathy Payne was on her route on Joiner Hollow Road Monday when she noticed where the car left the road. She called 911, and Capt. Tim Hawn went out to investigate.

He found the car, about 250 feet off the road and down an embankment, resting in a creek. He also heard someone crying for help.

The woman said she had wrecked the day before, but her arm was wedged under the seat and she was unable to get out.

Rescue crews were called to safely remove her from the car and take her to a hospital to be checked out.
