A Harriman woman is looking to make a difference in light of a tragic accident in her hometown.

Harriman man killed, 1 juvenile hurt in head-on collision

(WBIR) A 57-year-old Harriman man died in a two-vehicle head-on crash Saturday night in Oliver Springs.

A preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol shows John Manis Jr. was killed in the collision.

According to the report, he was traveling Westbound on State Highway 61 a little before 10 p.m. Saturday. That's when another vehicle heading Eastbound crossed the center line and crashed head-on into Manis Jr. near the intersection with Cemetery Road.

Park dedicated to area hit by ash spill


TVA has finished the first phase of turning a once devastated area into a new park. It comes after the historic coal ash spill five and a half years ago that cost TVA more than a billion dollars.

Monday kicked off the start of the national campaign urging drivers and passengers to buckle up.

Officials said they hope "Click It or Ticket" campaign reminds people that wearing a seat belt could mean the difference between life or death.

Many fatal accidents could have been avoided if people were wearing their seat belts. Last year officials said more than 360 fatal crash victims in Tennessee weren't wearing seat belts. So far this year, 128 fatal crash victims were unrestrained.
