You can register to vote now thru Monday, October 8.

If you are not registered by Oct. 8 you will not be able to vote for the Presidential and State General Election scheduled for November 6.

Early Voting starts Octoctober 17 and ends November 1.

Video shows Mayfield's son slash political opponent's tires

Surveillance video released by Kingston Police shows the son of a former political candidate slashing the tires of a staff member for an opponent's campaign.

In the video, investigators say you can see Michael Mayfield, get off his father's campaign bus, look aound the Roane County Courthouse parking lot for a couple of minutes, and then cut the tires of a car in the parking lot.

The car belonged to a member of Chuck Fleischmann's campaign staff.

Former Roane Co. schools to be auctioned off

Two former Roane County school buildings will soon be up for auction.

The school board voted to auction off the former Dyllis Elementary School and Walnut Hill Elementary School properties, as well as another parcel of land the system owns off Eureka Road in Rockwood.

The date and time for the auction have not yet been set.

The minimum bid for the Dyllis Elementary property will start at $70,000.

The minimum for Walnut Hill is $25,000.

The single parcel of property will start at $5,000.

Both schools closed within the past few years.

The Roane County Teachers' Supply Closet wrapped up the final week of its donation drive with a roller-coaster of emotions and a happy ending.

Every year the Roane Alliance requests donations of school supplies and money to provide basic classroom items to teachers.  The donation drive ends with a "shopping day" where teachers can get the donated supplies free of charge.

Discovery on East TN farm inspires a novel

A discovery on her farm inspired a Roane County woman to write a book.

Her novel is true to history and East Tennessee.

The book starts with the words, "It lay where it was buried for over 100 years."

That is until one day when Tom McCracken plowed a field on the Roane County farm where he's lived with his wife, Shirley, for 40 years.

Shirley McCracken explained, "His plow turned it up. He was stopping to pick up rocks and throw them off the field and found a breastplate somewhere right in this area."

MTSU & Roane St. Comm. College team up to help students

Some East Tennessee community college students now have an easier path to completing their bachelor's degree.

Wednesday, the presidents of Roane State Community College and Middle Tennessee State University signed a dual admissions agreement.

That will allow qualified Roane State students to be enrolled at both schools, while they complete their associate's degree at Roane State.   They can also continue to pursue their bachelor's degree at MTSU.

TVA ash cash funds Roane County school upgrades

TVA is spending more than a billion dollars to clean up the site of the 2008 ash spill at the Kingston Fossil Plant.  The environmental disaster unleashed an avalanche of more than a billion gallons of sludge in Roane County.

While crews have made considerable progress in removing ash from the Emory River and clearing the ash-filled landscape, an investment from TVA has also provided a considerable upgrade to the county's schools.
