Angels of Hope helps cancer patients

Angels of Hope helps cancer patients

Hundreds of East Tennessee cancer patients benefit from a volunteer effort to help them around the holidays.

"This says love is all you need," reads a hand made pillow case.

Love motivated UT Medical Oncologist Dr. Susan Huntsinger to start a program to help the cancer patients she treats.

"To be able to do this for them and give them just that little bit of spark that little bit of hope is just a wonderful thing," she said.

She realized the holidays can be especially difficult for her patients.

The shopping event will be held next Wednesday, September 26, but the Roane Alliance says so far their donations are down dramatically from years past.

The Vols were up 14-10 in front of a sell-out crowd of more than 102,000.

But then the 2nd half happened to a team that's had some memorable 2nd half meltdowns in the past few years.

Then the Gators scored 27 points.

A greenway project in Harriman got a big boost Wednesday from the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

TDOT awarded a grant to Harriman worth more than $447,000 to help complete phase one of the city's riverfront greenway project.

Phase one will include the construction of nearly 1,500 feet of paved trail starting near Roane Street and ending at Morgan Avenue.

City leaders hope the project will encourage residents to be active and enjoy the great outdoors.
